I
was lunching one day at Pastis in New York when a woman got up from her
seat and peered at the lamb stew that I was eating. She asked if it was
good and I said that it was. I recognized her as Diane von Furstenberg and
later I wrote to her to ask if I could photograph her. I remember we hardly
spoke a word at the sitting. When I had set up, Ms. von Furstenberg arranged
herself, I took the picture and she left.
